Fund linked to Olympic gold medal winner scores $22M for second South Florida deal

The investment fund tied to retired Olympic tennis star Andre Agassi and Canyon Capital Realty Advisors sold the campus of Franklin Academy charter school near Boynton Beach for $22.31 million.

CA Miami 7788 OMT, a joint venture between Agassi and Canyon, sold the campus at 7882 South Military Trail to the Florida Charter Foundation, the Fort Lauderdale-based non-profit that operates the Franklin Academy charter schools in South Florida. The deal was financed by tax-exempt bonds issued through the Florida Development Finance Corp. and U.S. Bank.

The Canyon-Agassi Charter School Facilities Fund built charter schools in Boynton Beach and Cooper City for Franklin Academy. It recently sold the Cooper City campus for $20.05 million to the Florida Charter Foundation.

Another Franklin Academy is planned in Pembroke Pines.

Agassi won a gold medal at the 1996 summer Olympics in a men's singles tennis match.
